Sony and AMD have finally revealed new graphics, possibly for the PS6. Senior VP and general manager of computing and graphics at AMD, Jack Huynh, and Sony’s PS5 Lead Architect, Mark Cerny, made a video together discussing the new technologies.
Most of the video was based on two main upgrades, which were Neural Arrays and Radiance cores. Neural arrays help in optimising the AI accelerators, which are present in AMD’s RDNA architectures, which will network the computer units together.
Radiance Cores are new dedicated hardware blocks in a GPU that are designed to speed up ray-tracing, a feature where Nvidia’s GPUs excel over AMD’s. This would be a big improvement from the PS5 series.
As Sony was involved in the video, it is very clear everyone thought of new upgrades for the PS6, because AMD’s chips power the PlayStation, and that is where the companies meet. We can also see these upgrades not only in the next PlayStation but also in the AMD GPUs. Jack Huynh confirmed that the Universal Compression tech will be coming to future AMD SoCs and GPUs.
Mark Cerny has also played a role in developing RDNA 5, therefore Radiance Cores and Neural Arrays would be there in AMD’s GPU architecture.
This is the first of many sneaks we will be getting for The PS6 so we could be expecting to hear more about it very soon
